Forum Privacy Policy
This policy explains how personal data is handled when you use the L4G community forum at forum.l4g.online, powered by Discourse.
It complements the Privacy Policy for the main website at l4g.online and the Cookie Policy. The main website policy covers static pages and email contact; this policy focuses on forum accounts, posts and Discourse features.
Operator: L4G.Online — support@l4g.online
Public nature of forum content
Most forum areas are public. Topics, replies, usernames, profile fields you choose to display, and attachments may be visible to anyone, including visitors who are not logged in.
Public content may be indexed by search engines and copied or quoted by other users. Do not post sensitive personal information (for example home addresses, phone numbers, financial details, or information about children) in public topics or profiles.
Information collected through the forum
Account and profile data
- Registration details such as email address, username and password (stored using Discourse security practices).
- Optional profile information you provide (for example avatar, location, biography, links, platform IDs).
- Account preferences and notification settings.
Content you create
- Topics, replies, edits, reactions, flags/reports and uploaded files or images.
- Direct messages and group messages where those features are enabled (messages are not end-to-end encrypted; staff with appropriate access may review content when investigating reports or legal obligations).
Technical and security data
- IP addresses, browser and device information, timestamps and activity logs.
- Session cookies and similar technologies used to keep you signed in and protect against abuse (see Cookie Policy).
- Anti-spam, rate limiting and security diagnostics operated by Discourse or configured plugins.
Email communications
Discourse sends transactional emails such as account confirmation, password reset, mentions, digests and notifications according to your settings. Email delivery may involve your email provider and Discourse mail configuration.
How we use forum data
- Operating and displaying the community (hosting, showing posts, search within the forum).
- Account administration, authentication and security.
- Moderation, enforcing Terms of Service and community rules, and handling reports.
- Improving reliability and investigating technical issues.
- Complying with legal obligations and protecting users where reasonably necessary.
Lawful bases under UK GDPR may include performance of a contract (providing the forum service you sign up for), legitimate interests (security, moderation, community management balanced against your rights), and legal obligation where applicable. Where consent is required for specific technologies, we will rely on consent obtained through appropriate mechanisms.
Moderation and staff access
Authorised administrators and moderators may access forum data, including reports, logs and message content where necessary to enforce rules, respond to abuse, or meet legal requirements. Moderation actions may be logged.
Retention, deletion and account closure
Closing or deleting a forum account does not automatically remove all data:
- Public posts and replies may remain visible to preserve conversation context, unless removed under moderation rules or applicable law.
- Quoted excerpts, backups, logs and security records may be retained for a period consistent with operational, legal or security needs.
- Some data may be anonymised rather than fully deleted where complete erasure would undermine legitimate interests or legal duties.
You can request deletion or anonymisation using Discourse account tools where available and by contacting support@l4g.online. We will respond within applicable UK GDPR timeframes.
Third-party services
The forum may use infrastructure, email delivery, anti-spam, embedding or other integrations depending on Discourse configuration. We have not verified every third-party plugin in this repository. The operator should document enabled integrations in the live admin panel and update this policy when plugins change.
Links or embeds posted by users may connect you to external websites governed by their own policies.
International transfers
Forum hosting, email or support tools may process data outside the UK. Where required, appropriate safeguards (such as UK IDTA/addendum or SCCs) should be in place with providers. Confirm transfer arrangements with your hosting and Discourse setup.
Your UK GDPR rights
You may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and data portability where applicable. Contact support@l4g.online. You may complain to the ICO: https://ico.org.uk/
Children
The forum is not intended for children below the minimum age shown during registration. If you believe a child has registered without appropriate permission, contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
Changes
We may update this Forum Privacy Policy when features, providers or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date shows the latest revision.
